What have you learned from your experiences at DLA Piper?

My experience at DLA Piper has allowed me to develop many professional and legal technical skills through working with people from all sorts of backgrounds and levels of experience. My role in the employment team has allowed me to interact directly with clients and help tailor our advice to their needs. My work has enabled me to form international connections through the various multi-jurisdictional cases I have worked on with my team. My experience so far at DLA Piper has taught me to be creative in my style of work and I approach every task with a fresh mindset, allowing me to unlock my full capacity. 

What do you think makes DLA Piper different to other law firms?

In my experience of other law firms through work experience and apprenticeship applications I've never encountered such friendly people as there are at DLA Piper. I initially thought this was because I was a new employee, but I now realise that the firm has an exceptional culture. Colleagues make an effort to create a friendly and inclusive culture, which is invaluable as an apprentice at the start of my career. Being surrounded by people who take the time to help you learn and succeed is a privilege and something I've not always experienced in a professional capacity.  I recently took part in puppy therapy organised by the firm; this is one of the many examples of DLA Piper's commitment to the wellbeing of their employees.

Do you have any advice for students aspiring to pursue a career in law?

As someone who dreamed of pursuing a career in law for most of of my teenage years, my advice is to research your aspirations. I believe the solicitor apprenticeship route is a brilliant and effective career pathway which gives you the opportunity to work alongside likeminded people and expand your network, all whilst gaining 6 years of work experience. As a student it's important to choose the right path for you. Pursuing a career in law is a big commitment, so doing your research enables you to pick the best fit for you and ensures your success.
