Why did you choose to work at DLA Piper?
The available opportunities – particularly, the high-quality work for clients at the forefront of their respective industries and the firm's pro-bono initiatives. Additionally, the firm's innovative approach to the delivery of legal services was another key factor in my decision. I was particularly impressed by the firm's ambition to unlock transformative change through the development of innovative products and services via Law&.
Working at a firm with a global presence was also important to me, as it provides the chance to collaborate with colleagues on complex multi-jurisdictional matters. Lastly, I wanted to be part of a firm with a collaborative and supportive environment, something that DLA Piper has cultivated through its values and extensive people networks.
Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experiences at DLA Piper?
A valuable aspect of the training programme is the exciting client secondment opportunities. During my final rotation, I was given the opportunity to spend 6 months at Heineken UK. Having supported with various Heineken UK matters throughout my training programme, I was thrilled at the prospect of working more closely with their Legal Team.
The client secondment experience has been invaluable for my professional development. Not only have I been able to develop my commercial awareness, but the unique opportunities of the secondment have enhanced my legal skillset. Overall, supporting the Heineken UK Legal Team in navigating their unique legal challenges has been a fantastic experience and it has been a pleasure to work with their team.
What pro bono or sustainability-related activities have you been involved in?
DLA Piper's commitment to sustainability is clearly demonstrated through the offering of Carbon Literacy training to all employees. The training provides participants with a deeper understanding of the causes and effects of climate change, enabling them to promote sustainable practices in the workplace. As a result of the training, I now feel more confident in having informed conversations with colleagues and clients around the challenges of climate change.
Additionally, these sessions have given me valuable insights into the actions that DLA Piper has taken to reduce the firm's carbon footprint. It was also fascinating to see how sustainability considerations have increasingly been integrated into the firm's planning and operational decision making.
