What surprised you most about DLA Piper?

From a personal development perspective, DLA Piper seemed like an inclusive and supportive environment where I could thrive. With the solicitor apprenticeship programme being such a new route into the profession, I was unsure how receptive people would be. However, it was clear from the outset that DLA Piper was committed to the programme, and it appealed to me that the firm wanted to provide equal opportunities to everyone.

There isn't the hierarchy you would expect at such a large firm - everyone is welcoming, and colleagues at all levels take the time to answer questions and enhance your development. People at DLA Piper have a genuine passion for career progression.

How would you describe the culture at DLA Piper?

The firm has a collaborative culture, empowering colleagues to make connections and expand their network. Teamwork is the foundation of every department - colleagues are supportive of one and other and together we strive for solutions. DLA Piper encourages all its people, regardless of their position, to proactively contribute to the firm's culture and the way in which we work, not just those in senior roles. Colleagues in leadership roles are attentive and listen to our ideas, share our visions, and take steps to implement them.

The firm encourages creativity and innovation amongst all its people, and new ideas are welcomed and valued. I've seen this particularly with the solicitor apprenticeship programme, which was a new programme when I first joined DLA Piper and which the firm continues to enhance based on our feedback.

What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean to you, and how are you involved in DLA Piper’s people networks?

DLA Piper embodies everything it means to be a diverse and inclusive workplace. I believe that privilege shouldn’t determine potential, and this is at the forefront of many of the firm's social mobility initiatives. I am involved in DLA Piper's "Horizons" people network, aimed at empowering colleagues despite their backgrounds. This, for me, aligns with what the apprenticeship route is all about; removing barriers so anyone can access a career in law regardless of their socio-economic background.

DLA Piper continues to evolve its solicitor apprenticeship programme and diversify the routes into the profession to promote social mobility. It's an exciting time to join a firm which gives everyone opportunities to succeed.
