Why did you choose to work at DLA Piper?
DLA Piper's global presence was a central point to me. It comes with the chance to work on multi-jurisdictional matters and engage with colleagues all over the world at some point in your career. And, you might also have the chance to go on an international secondment or work briefly from different offices. It made perfect sense to me as someone that had just moved to Ireland. On top of that, DLA Piper's values resonated with me, and I only encountered nice and approachable people during the recruitment process.
What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean to you, and how are you involved in DLA Piper’s people networks?
To me, diversity, equity and inclusion are all about recognising and valuing differences in people and making sure that people know they are valued and respected for who they are. It's also about ensuring that everyone has fair access to opportunities and resources. Being from a diverse background myself, it is something that I want to see reflected in my workplace.
DLA Piper has plenty of opportunities to drive positive change and contribute to a more just and inclusive society. As an active member of Iris, Mosaic and LAW, I had the chance to participate and drive some events and discussions around meaningful topics, which made me grow professionally and personally.
Do you have any advice for students aspiring to pursue a career in law?
Work hard to achieve your goals but also to find the time to do the things you love. A career in law is dynamic and constantly evolving, so it's also important to be adaptable and open minded to succeed.
Don't be afraid of change and see it as an opportunity rather than a challenge. As networking is a key part of the job, investing in your professional skills from an early stage of you career may also open many opportunities for you.
Finally, if at some point you decide that law might not be for you, don’t hesitate to start fresh!
