What drew me most to DLA Piper was the exciting array of projects and the range of clients I would have the privilege to collaborate with. Working across various sectors promises a continuous stream of new challenges and opportunities for personal and professional development.

The firm's global network opens the door to an international community and the prospect of working alongside professionals from around the world offers cultural exchanges that enhance my understanding of global markets and practices.

DLA Piper's commitment to providing international experiences, such as training and secondments, presents opportunities for learning and growth. These experiences foster a global mindset and cultivate meaningful personal relationships.

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experiences at DLA Piper?

One standout experience during my time at DLA Piper is my one-month secondment to Milan. This experience was incredibly rewarding both professionally and personally. Professionally, it allowed me to gain firsthand exposure to a different legal system and work closely with colleagues in a new environment, broadening my perspective and enhancing my skills. On a personal level, living and working in Milan for a month was an enriching experience, allowing me develop meaningful connections with colleagues. This secondment experience was invaluable and allowed me to grow and expand my horizons in a meaningful way.

Do you have any advice for students aspiring to pursue a career in law?

My advice would be to prioritise gaining practical experience through internships. These experiences not only provide valuable insight into the day-to-day workings of a law firm but also offer opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in real world settings.

I would encourage students to research different sectors and areas of expertise to find a firm that aligns with their interests and career goals. Each firm has its own clients and areas of specialism, so finding the right fit impacts personal fulfilment and opportunities for growth.

I would recommend networking with professionals in the field, attending legal events, and staying updated on industry trends to gain a deeper understanding of the legal and economic landscape.

What has surprised you most about DLA Piper?

One of the most surprising aspects of DLA Piper has been the level of global connectivity and collaboration. Despite the firm’s size and international presence, I have been surprised by how seamlessly colleagues from different offices and regions work together on projects. The firm's culture of collaboration fosters a sense of unity and teamwork. The values are embedded in the culture, and everyone is eager to collaborate and help each other. Overall, the level of cohesion and synergy among DLA Piper’s global teams has been remarkable and has exceeded my expectations.
