Why did you choose to work at DLA Piper?

I chose DLA Piper in order to compete at the highest level within an international atmosphere. I have always been attracted to the global business identity of DLA Piper and the firm's capacity to work on cross-border transactions involving lawyers from several other jurisdictions working for a shared goal.

DLA Piper is a firm committed to excellence in the provision of legal services to clients and this allows any new joiner to acquire legal skills which are useful for professional growth and self-development. I also chose DLA Piper because of the quality of the lawyers and partners working for the firm and the opportunity to work with and learn from them.

The collaborative and supportive values positively contribute to the development of the firm’s local and global teams.

What have you learned from your experiences at DLA Piper?

I have been involved in many multi-jurisdictional transactions and I have learned that clients really appreciate the advantages of having one single global team leading and working together in a transaction, even if the transaction itself comprises several jurisdictions with local particularities based on the legal regimes of every country. The capacity to manage and lead global transactions as one single team is what set the firm apart and I think that clients value this.

I have also learned that in order to provide excellent services, it is essential to have a great and well organised team where all colleagues and members of the team play a role in achieving results. The combination of junior and senior lawyers within the same team enables teams to combine ideas and provide new and innovative solutions to clients.

What pro bono activities have you been involved in?

I think that lawyers have a professional duty with society, and justice and pro bono activities are key to develop our engagement with social issues.

I have been enthusiastic about participating in pro bono activities advising a wide range of associations and individuals, such as (i) a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) whose main purpose is the support and integration of people with mental disabilities; (ii) other international organizations such as United Nations (Naciones Unidas) in relation to a list of queries of applicable Spanish law related questions regarding international human rights; and (iii) providing information and assistance to immigrants with a particular focus refugees and other people in vulnerable situations.
