Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experiences at DLA Piper?
I have been at DLA Piper for four years and my time has been very fulfilling. Joining the firm enabled me to qualify as a solicitor and relocate to Dubai. Here, I've been involved in a diverse range of construction and commercial arbitration and litigation cases, working alongside very experienced and knowledgeable lawyers which has allowed me to broaden my legal experience and knowledge and increase my legal skills. Beyond professional growth, I've cultivated meaningful connections with colleagues, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment. Do you have any advice for students aspiring to pursue a career in law?
For students aspiring to pursue a career in law, perseverance is paramount. Receiving rejections in training contract and job applications can be discouraging, but it's essential to stay focused if you are passionate about a legal career. Consider gaining paralegal experience – it offers invaluable insights into law firms' inner workings, exposing you to diverse tasks and roles. This experience helps you understand your preferred sector and area of law, which can sometimes be different from your favourite subject in law school! Moreover, paralegal work enhances your lawyering skills by providing firsthand experience in case management and strategic planning. Look out for networking opportunities and educational events hosted by law firms – they offer invaluable chances to connect with industry professionals and deepen your knowledge. In this competitive field, persistence, adaptability, and continuous learning are key to achieving your legal career goals.
