Why did you choose to work at DLA Piper?

I wanted to work at a global law firm with offices in multiple jurisdictions which would allow me to gain exposure to a wide range of legal challenges across several sectors. I was particularly impressed with the diversity of the team at DLA Piper. I believed that being part of a diverse team would enrich my work experience and help learn how to come up with innovative solutions for our clients who themselves operate in diverse markets. 

Beyond the global reach of the firm, the local, but comprehensive, range of legal services was something I wanted to be involved with. DLA Piper Middle East LLP acts on a range of matters in the Dubai International Financial Centre, Abu Dhabi Global Market, international arbitrations as well as onshore courts. The possibility of working within such a dynamic environment was extremely exciting. 

What sustainability-related work have you been involved in?

I was a part of the team that ran the first of its kind DLA Piper Sustainability Moot. The Sustainability Moot saw 46 university teams from across Europe, Africa and the Middle East go head-to-head, addressing complex issues related to international law, sustainability and ESG. 

I sat as a judge through multiple rounds of the moot and acted as a clerk for the final which was held at the Abu Dhabi Global Market Courts. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to contribute to the global conversation on sustainability and environmental justice. The best thing about the Sustainability Moot was that colleagues across the global network ranging from paralegals to partners were encouraged to participate. 

The aim is to continue the Sustainability Moot to debate and shape the legal landscape for generations to come. 

How would you describe the culture at DLA Piper?

DLA Piper has created a culture that is inclusive, supportive and people focused. Since the day I joined the firm, I felt welcomed and valued with colleagues at all levels offering guidance and encouragement at every turn. 

I truly believe that what sets DLA Piper apart is that the firm encourages me to reach my full potential and supports me with opportunities that help shape my individual career journey. These opportunities include networking events, training days, academic courses and mentoring all of which enable my growth and development. 

DLA Piper allowed me to live and work in a new location and experience a new culture. There is definitely a very social side to the team (particularly in Dubai) which helps create a dynamic work-life balance.
